GeoTagr App Reviews

No background processing

Does what it says but the developer is still not making use of background processing in os4. Been waiting for an update that does it but it doesnt look like its gonna happen. Not worth the bucks. There are other apps that do same and background processing and for less price.

Slick interface, but does it work?

Pros- Easy to record location. Cons- If operating in the background, can only work in "continuous" mode, uses up battery. Difficult to translate the data from the app to photos...actually have to use two other applications to translate GPX file, and even then have to match individual photos to tagged locations. Folder sharing tedious to set up, documentation recommends use certain program for import from camera, then second import into photo software. Documentation on the website is about 50% complete, no discussions or forums.

JUNK!!!

Followed all the directions. Got my Canon DSLR synched to the second with the app. Got home and none of my 300+ photos can be tagged. Dont waste your time with this app!!!

Dosent work

Bought this app and it dosent work. I tried on windows and macs.

Will not run properly in background on iOS 4. Waste of $5.

App offers multiple options for update intervals, but this is pointless as it reverts to continuous as soon as you try to run the app in the background, ie, as soon as you switch to any other app on the iPhone with iOS 4. GeoTagPhotos Pro costs less & manages to run properly in the background, so why cant this app? Dont waste your money until the developer fixes the app to run properly with iOS 4.

Works as advertised

Downloaded the track file from this app and my geotag freeware synched with more than 300 aerial photos, no problem. I almost dropped $200 on a Garmin gps unit and found this $5 dollar app instead. Thanks!

Does What it Says

This app does what it says it will do... and with ease. I love it and never leave home without turning it now. Highly recommended.

Great app – even better customer support

Ive used this app to tag thousands of photos over the past year with my iPhone (3GS and 4S) and a Nikon D40. It takes just a few seconds to geotag the photos over wifi on the Mac. It runs in the background while streaming internet music or talking on the phone. It works perfectly! Last week I incorrectly set my cameras time, so the geotags were off slightly. I emailed the app developer for help, and he replied with a great solution within two hours.

Probably the best geotagging option

Im a geo-holic who geotags all my photos and has been geocaching for over 10 years. Ive been using the EyeFi card, Ive used GPS dongles, and Ive done geotagging by hand. I have to say that GeoLogTag is probably the best option Ive come across. Its not as elegant as a GPS dongle that puts the GPS info right into your images, but it is probably the most reliable, simple, and cheap option (cheap for those of us who have iPhones already.) If youre going to turn logging on and leave it on, its probably a good idea to pick up an extended battery case so you dont kill your phone while tagging locations. I personally dont do this though, I just tag a location when I get there and use that location for all my photos there. (Im in VN at the moment and have had no issues with an unlocked iPhone 4s, but the EyeFi card wouldnt work in this spot, and I have a broken Geometr that wont stay on long enough to get a signal.) The latest version (3.4.1 as of this writing) is a huge improvement over past versions. I was happy that it let you pick which type of geotagging you want to use, because sometimes you get terrible results with one vs the other. This is also a huge benefit over other geotagging options like EyeFi or GPS which only have one method for geolocation. Bottom line, for $5 this app is your easiest and most flexible option for geotagging.

100% mobile!

Im looking for an App like this for a long time. There are several apps that let you include GPS information from your iPhone to pictures taken with a DSL, but this one lets you do it without a computer! Now I can use the iPhone as a GPS and the information can be sent to the iPad via WiFi or Bluetooth and set to the pictures imported using the Camera Connection Kit.

Easy to use, excellent functionality

When I recently learned that Aperture (and probably iPhoto as well) lets me easily add location information to my photo taken with my DSLR, I wondered if theres an app for that. After browsing for a while for apps with keywords such as "gps" and "aperture", I found several apps that seemed to provide what I expected. But only when I found this app, I realized that the others couldnt keep up with this one: While most location recording iOS apps let you create a ".gpx" file which you could then transfer to your Mac/PC and then use another app on the computer to add the information to your photos, GeoLogTag does it all in one step, at least for Mac OS X users: You start GeoLogTag, it reminds you to sync your iPhones clock with that of your camera, and it will record your locations until you stop it. Then you download your taken photos to your Mac into a folder, share that folder and let GeoLogTag log in to that folder via File Sharing. It then automatically finds all your photos and adds location info to them based on the time the photos were taken. Theres no more to say about it - it just works, and was well worth the few bucks to me.

Amazing, Simple, Cheap

Love this app! Exported the gpx files and imported it right into Aperture. Worked without a hitch! The app also did a great job of keeping the track up-to-date, often within seconds of moving. Plus, it is much cheaper then a dedicated GPS module for a camera.

Great app!

This is a great app, and it saved me over $200 to buy a GPS unit for my DSLR. It was slightly tricky the first time I used it because the Map module on LIghtroom 4 is new and Ive never used it before. But once I figured it out, it is easy! Id recommend this to everyone who travels with a camera without a GPS unit. Geotagr is able to pinpoint the location of my photos down to the most minute scale. This is most useful because I was on a botanical survey hike and was able to show on the map in Lightroom where I took pictures of a specific specimen of the vegetation of the area.

Simply excellent!

The best & simplest to use geotagging app! Dont waste hundreds of dollars for dedicated GPS logging equipment, when this app costs $5 and uses a GPS unit you always have handy (I.e. your iPhone). Works like a charm on Aperture!

Worthless.

Im using an iPad WiFi. I cant tag a singe photo. What a waste of 4.99.

Excellent and Useful

Does what it says and well. Recommend an auxiliary power source if your going to be shooting all day with GPS on though.

Good app, good support

Useful app, works well. Good support. I couldnt find how to manually enter a location manually, so I emailed the developer on a Saturday and he replied on Sunday explaining how to do it. Not many developers would reply to support email over a weekend.

My Favorite Geotagging App!

Im not one to write reviews, but I really like this app. Its really easy to use, but what I like best is how you can use the track to geotag the photos. The app provides many different ways for you to accomplish this task, so you just need to pick the one that works best for your workflow. There are two that I use: Ill use the iPhone to record my hike (I like to photograph during my hikes), but Ill actually shoot with a digital camera, not the iPhone. If Im just shooting JPGs, Ill upload them into iPhoto when I get home so that they go to my photo stream. Then I just open up this app on my iPad and it loads my photo stream and automatically geotags the photos I just took. Couldnt be easier. The other way I use it is when Im shooting raw (which is most of the time). You start out the same way, but when youre all done, you instruct GeoTagr to email you the GPX file. Once you have that, you can import the photos and the GPX file into Aperture (or Lightroom) and sync the GPX data into the raw metadata and voila, youre photos are geotagged. Lastly, the support is great. Ive only had one issue (and it was my fault), but the developer replied within minutes (on a Sunday no less). Id buy this app again in a heartbeat.

Simple But Really Powerful

This is a great app! Does just what it says and more….The developer is offers incredible support and gets back to you to answer any and all questions.

Latest update corrects the tracking issue

I havent tried it yet, but the latest update should fix the issue I describe below. Ive changed my review to 4 stars till I test it. The app is amazing when it is working and I have no reason to doubt the developer. Not sure if it happened with the latest update or iOS 6, but this app has become completely unreliable. It will start recording and then just decide to stop randomly while the phone is locked. So you get back after a long trek only to find out it tracked the first half mile then decided to stop. It used to work amazingly well, but now its not worth running. Please fix.
